Dan and I did a quick trip to the bottom of Baja and back.
This short trip was packed full of crazy. My buddy Dan and I drove the whole peninsula and back, fishing and camping all the way. My friend Al from San Diego joined us for some of the trip too. Dan's photos are geotagged so you can click the location icon to see where on the map the photo was taken.
This was how things looked when I left White Rock!

On Christmas Eve we were in Playa Coyote in Conception Bay. Lots of gringos camped out long-term, like a big family. That evening they had boats float by with Christmas lights which was kinda cool. :) They set out farolitos all down the beach. Photo by DJL.

I also had a small trigger and a flat fish. This is also the last image of me with my old-growth beard! Photo by DJL.
This was a left-handed flatfish, so it wasn't the normal Baja California flouder we see. Photo by DJL.
This is a cool video that Dan took of birds going after a bait ball of fish. The Blue-footed and Brown boobies especially were amazing to watch. Photo by DJL.

The beach that we camped on at Ensenada Blanca.
The big resort to the south owned 95% of the beach...
But not this 5%.
Too windy to fish, so we did some bird watching and herping. Photo by DJL.

I was planning to ID this plant, it was blooming all over southern Baja. Anyone? Photo by DJL.

They are colorful...
At Hotel Los Pescadores in Los Barriles setting up a half-day charter. Patty treated us well, I recommend her place. (www.fisheastcape.com)
The next morning we're on the water before dawn. We were on a 23' super panga and our captain was Lavo. Photo by DJL.
GOOD times! :)
Dan fighting one of several bonitas he caught.
I didn't catch a lot of fish on this charter, but I had a hell of a good time! I caught a striped marlin!!! What a fun fight! Photo by DJL.
A digital zoom, it's a wonder I didn't lose him with the line slack like that. Photo by DJL.

Finally he was getting tired after about a half hour. Our captain, Lavo, asked if we wanted the meat or to let it go. I wanted the meat, so he gaffed it and brought it aboard. Photo by DJL.
Right when he was brought on board.

I took this video as we headed back at noon. What a trip!
Dan's turn!
Time to make us some fillets! We left it at the hotel to freeze and we picked it up in the way home. We brought back about 28 pounds of marlin fillets. :)
Oversaturated? Not really, it was pretty intense light that night at Los Frailles.
I caught a lot of Orangeside Triggerfish at Los Frailles. We fished south of the border of the marine park. Photo by DJL.
I think that I had a small grouper here.
My lunch spot.
Dan did a lot of hiking today and caught a number of lizards. I'll include a few. Photo by DJL.

We spent New Year's Eve in Cabo san Lucas. I didn't expect much, but by the end of the night my mind was blown!!
The crowds kept growing.
This is the last picture that I took. We had to get home quick so we drove 2 12-hour days to get back to Phoenix. What a fun, crazy trip!. Thanks for going with Dan and Al.
